Founded in 1988, UrbanPromise is an inner-city Wilmington school with the mission to teach children and young adults the skills necessary for spiritual growth, academic achievement, life management, and Christian leadership. Faith Church has a long history of being involved and helping Urban Promise on their mission.
There are several ways you can get involved in this ministry and change the life of a child:
Reading Nights - The Faith Young Adults group at Faith Church visits UrbanPromise one Tuesday each month to read to and with elementary school age kids. The time, attention, and reading provides a great opportunity for these children to see young adults love, care, and live out the Gospel right in front of them. These nights are also great ways to introduce others to the Faith Young Adults group. If you'd like to get involved, you can contact Tom Harr.
Work Days - Once or twice each year, Faith Church organizes an UrbanPromise Work Day, where members of our Youth Group and congregation help with cleaning, organizing, and painting projects. If you are interested in volunteering to help out with the next one, you can contact Kevin Koslowsky.
Annual Summer Camp Carnival Day - For the past several years, Faith Church has hosted a carnival day with games and activities in our gym and parking lot for children attending UrbanPromise summer camps throughout the city of Wilmington. If you are interested in volunteering to help out with the next one, you can contact Tom Harr.
Overnight Camp - For the past several years, Faith Church has hosted an overnight camp for the children of Urban Promise. This gives the kids a chance to get away from their normal surroundings and enjoy fun, Bible activities, songs, and friends away from it all. The Faith Church Youth Group sponsors the event, but they can always use help from others that are interested. The Urban Promise kids sleep in the church gym and the Faith Church family provides activities, support, and serves them to make their stay a fun one. If you are interested in helping out, you can contact Kevin Koslowsky.
UrbanPromise Tutors & Mentors - The children of UrbanPromise need mentors, role models, and tutors. Several people from Faith Church volunteer of their time to tutor and mentor these precious children. Whether you can commit to weekly, monthly, or occasional tutoring, UrbanPromise can use your help. If you are interested in getting involved with tutoring, you can visit their Rise UP volunteer page and find out how to get started.
Supplies - UrbanPromise is always in need of supplies to help run their school and meet their mission for these inner-city children. Please visit their Supply Page to find out what current needs they have.
