MARRIAGE & BAPTISM
At Faith, marriage and baptism are provided for our members, regular attenders, and sometimes their families. We do not make a habit of "renting" out our sanctuary. Why? We believe that both marriage and baptism come with an individual promise and the promise of the larger church to aid those embarking on their new journey.
MARRIAGE - The bible clearly establishes the covenant of marriage as an institution ordained by God. He tells us in Genesis 2:24 "that is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh." The bond of marriage (becoming one flesh) is a serious one...one that should not be broken. Therefore, people must enter the covenant of marriage recognizing what God has established and with a promise to follow His commands (to the best of our ability) and seek guidance and wisdom from the Holy Scriptures and the church so that our marriages may be Christ-centered and flourish as God so desires for us. We are taught to love our spouses as Jesus Christ loves the church and gave himself up for her (Ephesians 5:22-25). If you are a member or regular attender of Faith and are interested in being married at Faith Church, please contact the church office and set up some time with a pastor.
BAPTISM - When a parent decides to baptize his/her child, it is the continuation of a tradition for Christians since Bible times. Baptism is the outward sign of the covenant promise that God has made to His followers and signifies our union as believers with Christ, our participation in the benefits of the covenant (promise) of grace, and our admission into the visible church. This outward sign comes with some obligations for both the parents and the church. When we baptize our children, we are promising to train them in the ways of the Lord (Proverbs 22:6 and Deuteronomy 6:7) and lean on the church as we raise our children.
The same is true for adults. Upon profession of faith, we also baptize adults that call Faith Church their "home church". Both the adult being baptized and the church make the same promises to nurture and train the newly baptized Christian.
